Administrative Assistant to the Senior Minister

Mary Jane’s working association with First Christian Church has been a personal ministry for her to the membership needs of this congregation. She has served as the Administrative Assistant to the Senior Minister for the past 8 years. She handles coordination with the Membership Ministry and provides assistance with programs such as Vows of Christina Parenthood, Bundles of Joy, Diamond Disciples, all-church dinners and events, and various receptions. She maintains the membership records of the church and monitors attendance records. She coordinates information on individuals and families who have visited, are ill, having a crises, sharing joys, or having special needs, and organizes this information for the ministers and elders for follow-up. She helps to coordinate meetings and prepare documents for the Elders and Deacons.

Mary Jane is a retired elementary and special education schoolteacher and longtime member of First Christian Church.  She was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas and began her christian journey at a very young age in the Disciples of Christ denomination.  Following her teaching career of nine years, she also had a very successful sales business that also spanned nine years.  Retiring to attend to the needs and activities of her three children, she became extremely involved in the mission of the PTA programs of LISD.  She served on several different PTA boards, including the LISD Council, chaired numerous committees for various schools, and was an officer at many levels of leadership throughout the schools in LISD.  Volunteering at First Christian Church has mainly been through the children and youth ministries at the church. Other service has been with the many diverse sectors of the Lubbock community.  Mary Jane is or has been personally a part of the many activities of First Christian Church--Board of Deacons, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Sanctuary Choir, College Ministry and Worship Ministry.  She is an Alumni of Alpha Phi Sorority at Texas Tech University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree and later returned there to do masters work. 

Mary Jane’s husband, Andy, is a farmer.  They have three very successful, grown children, D’dee, Ryan, and Kassie, and four adorable grandchildren. She enjoys swimming, gardening, reading and exploring new avenues of computer technology.
