A native Texan, Dr. Jacob Miller has been seen as a conductor, pianist and tenor soloist on regional and university stages.  Dr. Miller has served as organist, pianist and/or music director for many churches throughout Central and West Texas.  A strong advocate of convergent worship, Miller has led many church music programs through a successful integration of traditional and contemporary music, always focusing on quality, regardless of style. 

Starting with the 2010 season, Dr. Miller assumed the role of music director and conductor for Lubbock Moonlight Musicals, where he had served as assistant conductor for the previous three seasons in productions including, The Sound of Music, The Secret Garden, Guys and Dolls, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  Dr. Miller made his debut as the newly appointed conductor with productions of Hello Dolly and Willy Wonka.  During the 2011 season he will conduct and music direct Annie, High School Musical and The King and I.  In addition to his work with LMM, Miller has served as conductor in recent productions of Sweeny Todd and Leonard Bernstein’s Peter Pan, and as music director for Donizetti’s Rita, The Fantasticks, Grease, and The Last Five Years. He has also assisted in the musical preparation of productions of Le Nozze di Figaro, The Ballad of Baby Doe, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Gluck’s Orfeo and I Capuleti e i Montecchi.

Miller has performed as a collaborative artist in master classes for many of the world’s finest artists, of opera and musical theatre, such as Warren Jones, Jennifer Larmore, Mary Jane Johnson, Donnie Ray Albert, Valerie Trujillo, Debbie Gravitte and Scott Coulter.  He also served as pianist and tenor chorister in the Texas Tech University Performance Practicum in Vocal Music – Performance Perspectives in Middle Germany under the direction of Dr. John Hollins which included performances in Thale, Burg Falkenstein, Wust, Vieritz, Jerichow, Quedlinburg, Halberstadt, and Leipzig.

As an active academic, Miller recently delivered a lecture recital for the College Music Society’s 26th South Central Regional Conference, on Leonard Bernstein’s Peter Pan.  He also remains active as a recitalist, having recently performed at University of Texas-Pan American and Eastern New Mexico University.

Dr. Miller currently serves as Director of Music Ministries at First Christian Church. He recently received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from Texas Tech University, where he studied conducting with Gary Lewis, vocal coaching with John Hollins and voice with Gerald Dolter.  Miller received his MM and BM, in church music with a piano performance concentration from Baylor University, where he studied piano with Dr. James Williams, Roger Keyes and collaborative piano with Dr. Elvia Pucinelli.
